I had this revelation of 12 collections of work based around 12 themes of life. I decided to sit down and write down from my point of view what the twelve collections should be as the foundation of this giant collection. I decided on the game of chess, human anatomy, mind, spirit, scientific abstracts, ocean, and the cosmos as the first seven collections. The whole idea of this body of work is to take each important theme of life and dissect and analyze each element within each particular theme and relate it to the creation of life and universe at the very beginnings.

The Compelling Dynamic of the Human Body and Anatomical Structure in Relation to the Universe : Anatomy Art Collection in Pencil

About five years ago i set sail on a voyage through the deepest caverns of the human body and plunged forward into a world of immense mechanical construction through late night study in my home studio and laboratory/office . The forms, shapes, and various parts of the human body and anatomical structure that i began to discover on my voyage began to remind me of various structures we see in everyday life. I began to clearly see this connection between the human body and how it works like a machine and its connection with the complex interactions and workings of life on earth. Even before this journey , i planned my study around the ultimate goal of achieving a collection of anatomical drawings that represented the amazing complexity of the human anatomy and body in relation to our life. I knew this would take me deep into the mysterious corridors of the body and every detail would have to be considered. These small morpheus details that possess the human body would eventually lead me through many doors and vivid insights and correlations that would shape the nucleus of my drawing collection using human anatomy but ultimately incorporate the human body and life in unison.

"Accomodating the Inner Facade", Anatomy Art Drawing Collection, Justin Michael Jenkins

When i started the collection of twelve anatomical drawings in color after intense study of the human body, i began to immediately fuse objectivity with the internal structure creating mirrored illusions of what are made up of with what me actually create from our finished product as human beings. In "Accomodating the Inner Facade" (shown above), I created a room from the inner structure of the human head and skull along with tendons and muscle.

The Anatomy Art Drawing Collection was my answer to the beauty and intrigue of the human body and the masterpiece our creator designed and its overall relationship with the bigger picture and dynamic of the universe and life. This collection has been collected and featured by many doctors, including Robert Whitaker, a former pediatric urological surgeon, well known for his site, Instant Anatomy .

In the end, i hope everyone appreciates the amazing beauty we possess within us and hopefully as a collective whole we can learn to use the bodies complex inner mechanics and somehow incorporate that into our daily life and life on earth.

If you are interested in purchasing products , framed art prints, or even original works of art from this collection, please click the links below.

Anatomy Art Framed Prints

Anatomy Art Mini Poster Prints

Anatomy Art Greeting Cards

Anatomy Art Coffee Mugs

Anatomy Art Black Shirts

Anatomy Art White Shirts

If you are interested in an Original Work of Art or framed wholesale prints for your doctors office or hospital / clinic from this collection please email me at jjenkins@imaginativepencil.com . They tell me they have seen my drawings, especially the spiritual collection, and asked if i may be a christian due to certain pieces that depict biblical events and christ on the cross.

My response to these questions is that i firmly believe that god intended us to follow his path that he set forth and placed here on earth through his son Jesus. The institutions such as churches that teach us his word are wonderful in that they bring society together as a whole to become "one" with him in his house, yet i do not think it is neccessary to attend these institutions to lead your soul and spirit to the arms of god. With that said, i must say that i do not fit into any specific denomination whether it be syncretism or these new age theoretical denominations that have a more broad loving appeal for everyone. My spirit stems from the soil of the bible, the 10 commendments, and my loving and compassionate heart, which i try to reach out and help other's as much as i humanly can. I will let god label me if he so wishes when the time comes after i practice his word and follow his teachings in the best way i can. I want to grow more and more with him as i mature and learn some valuable lessons along the way. I think my beliefs and practices are as strong as many pastors or ministers and as long as i have compassion, forgive and love my enemies as best i can, and help the less fortunate and try to inspire others based on the word of god, i feel this foundation is as sturdy as any practicing catholic or christian, etc.

I would summize out of respect for many religions (some i have doubts about based on their actions), that my spirit and soul is a fusion of Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, Judaism, and many others, which each bringing something refreshing to the table that helps us reach god easier and understand his love and righteous power. I feel we as a whole on earth need to come together more and respect each others faiths and practices in our journey to reach and understand the heavenly father that wants us to respect each other and learn from one another, not construct ignorant walls that place a blind wedge between our different approaches to understanding his word. Most religions can learn from one another and in the end, we are simply all looking for a way to finish at the same place, just taking a different path to reach that final destination. If we just see each path as a piece to forming the whole puzzle of grand wisdom then we can each relate to each other and find the true word and power of god in that respect we have for our desired faiths, however different they seem to be.

Whatever path you choose or inspires you, whether it be attending church daily or weekly, praying alone on your own time in your room, being around a friend who inspires you to get closer to god, reading the bible privately, or studying the books and teachings of your desired denomination, each choice has a strong personal value to each individual that helps them stay on the righteous path to a higher wisdom and understanding. Everyone is different and each has their own ways of finding this path and as long as we all remain committed to the basic essential teachings within the bible and 10 commandments and help each other out and give our hearts as best we can, we will be fine in the end.

You can view my full drawing "Opening the Door to God" here:
Spiritual Drawing #P0380

You can purchase framed prints from my spiritual collection here:
Spiritual Art Framed Prints

Justin ~~~

Framed Art Prints showcasing all my Drawing Collections

Back in 2004, i took the initiative to use the services of CafePress (an online marketing service that offers unique and high quality products that are ready for printing) to further promote and allow everyone from around the world to get products such as mugs, posters, shirts, framed prints, clocks, pillows, and a lot more for a price that they can afford. I know they mean well and are talking in relation to what the "normal" person may see in my work at first glance. In fact, there was a book put together about my art explaining in detail what i am attempting to do and how it all works and makes sense. I also wanted that small majority who line up to tell me this recurring theme to have the chance to at least be able to read what my intentions are in my style without me rambling over and over on the phone about my theories and reasoning.

If we look at past artist's who strived and struggled to make a big difference in terms of their art surviving the test of time, a consistent trend seems to be these figures in art stayed the course with their approach, even in the face of critical adversity, whether friendly or worldly. Some examples that pop into my mind are Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, where at the time, his approach was considered radical to a degree and the immense complexity of color and forms dancing around the ceiling made way for one of the most infuential works of art ever created.
I also recall the struggle Pisarro went through (and the impressionists), where his pointillist technique never caught any attention at first, even though he had children to feed and became poor for a while, he sacrificed because he believed in himself and his vision so much (some to this day still are in criticism of the way he handled that with children - i will share my opinion at a later time). His technique and paintings, after years of struggle and enduring poverty, finally became an overnight sensation and he was reawarded with financial freedom and security beyond his imagination.

The moral of this story, in my opinion, is that the norms of society will forever gravitate their opinions toward that center nucleus based on what they have perceived, in this case visually, through mass marketing channels and through their own sense of understanding. A majority of people (this may be changing now) share the same core ideas of what is considered normal and acceptable and these beliefs tend to shape our reaction to certain styles and approaches by various artists and in every industry. Easily recognizable objects will always take precedence over abstract forms by the majority due to the fact that our senses have been socially and biologically contructed over the course of evolution to gravitate towards these recognized forms and it pleases our senses much more easily. Abstract forms that are broken down into dynamic reflections of the underlying scientific properties challenges us much more and leaves us exhausted in our search for the truth and identification of the forms we want to recognize.

Abstract Drawing Compared to one of my Equine Portrait's

Both approaches have concrete messages in that the simple recognizable forms can evoke the emotion and get to the heart of the message instantly whereas the abstract muted forms can leave us open to interpretation and lead us into an unknown path for the truth which we can fnd in ourselves if we have the patience to stay course with the intended message and idea of the artist.

When someone tells me i should spend more time on portraits or i should put less in my work they are missing the overall grand scheme of my ideas and missing the point entirely perhaps through less time to actually study the works or because they subconsciously yearn for simplicity in a complex world. I choose to show the simple and complex dynamics of our world all rolled into one dynamic using foundations of color and shape to hopefully create harmonious and challenging images that appeal to all the senses at once. I also get much more satisfaction out of this challenge then i would drawing a portrait, although that has its challenges as well. I hope all artist's would stay true to their ideas and concepts regardless of what others say.

Justin ~~~

Poetry and Art - My Drawing "Three Ballerinas" set to Poetry in a literature contest!

<a href="http://www.imaginativepencil.com/abstractp0500.html"target="_blank">

While checking my website statistics like i usually do weekly, i noticed an interesting amount of traffic coming from an online literature forum / site. I decided to check it out and found that a person by the name of "autolycus", who i think is a professor of poetry or english, found my art online and decided to create a poetry contest from this work of art! What a cool idea i thought to myself, and i was intrugued by what poems they would come up with. They have already begun posting some poems from the image, and i find all of them very inspiring. The use of words in relation to one another can create such beauty like the way i place shape, line, and form to create my vision.

I am having a hard time picking a favorite, but here is one poem by "Adolescent09" which goes like this:

"Triple meter unset,
Melody rounds roulette
They turn to pirouette.

Three sisters at the dance
Stop their legs in coy stance
Eyes balk with girlish glance.

Synch in legs, arms and feet
Pitch and hurl to the beat
Fold midriff to a pleat.

Balance, poise, ballet springs,
Mother glares in the wings
Violins sway in swings.

Sister one spins on toes,
Sister two roughly flows,
Sister three down she goes."

The deadline for this poetry contest based on my work "Three Ballerinas" is April 1st, according to autolycos, who started the contest.

To see the other poems just click Here

Thanks Autolycus for using my work!
Justin ~~~

Essential Tips & Advice for Artist's

On my website Imaginative Pencil, i give a number of tips that i used when i started my goal of 144 works in 12 collections back in 2003. Before i started this journey, i decided to keep all the works the same dimensions using the same medium (pencil), and to do them in a series of twelve works. Being the obsessive compulsive person i am, i even had to have one of the works be horizontal, although you may want to do 6 horizontal and 6 vertical pieces if you choose to follow my advice. Below is the basic principles i set for myself as i worked on my goal beginning with my <a href="http://www.imaginativepencil.com/chess.html"target="_blank">chess collection.

Approach Your Work In A Series

Start to spend time doing your works in a series. Begin your work with a vision in mind. To make this easier, sit down and think of a favorite topic then begin a series of work based around your unique approach. This series can be 6 works or 12 works or more, but make it at least 3-5. This way you can develop deeper into your intended and chosen subject matter.

Look at the Subject with a Child's Perspective

This may seem odd when you first hear it, but start looking at the world from a child's perspective. As we grow older, even adults find it difficult to look at life and reality in a playful way, thus they remain stuck or become a bit "narrow minded" or "set" in their ways and perceptions. Perhaps that is why it makes it more difficult for us to understand our own children at times (:. In order to unleash your full creative power you must let yourself go or free yourself of the constraints of reality and adult issues to tap into the well of resources of creativity. The key to this is to approach your work more loosely and let yourself float into the work rather than forcing the work to come the way you want it.

Look at Reality Differently

Start with a simple subject matter like a face of a person, then begin to look at that object much differently. For instance, when you look at a face you notice the eyes, nose and mouth, take these objects that make up the whole object (face) and begin to find a way to relate these objects to one another through a visual perspective. Maybe approach the whole of the face as a dark galaxy while the mouth, nose and eyes become planets forming the face. The Czechoslovakian magazine, Sachovy Tydenik ,wrote a really nice article about my work and art after seeing my published story on ChessBase. I was pleasantly surprised to see this after a long day in the studio and office! I thought the layout was excellent and i was also really taken back by the way my drawings looked in a grey scale. The dimensions and depth, i thought, really punched out with more explosiveness. At this point, i am contemplating my next series of chess works to be black and white pencil drawings, but on a grander scale. I also want my next chess series to be even more imaginative and i already have some nice concepts in my mind manifesting, although they morph into other ideas continuously.

I want to thank Sach Info in Czechoslovakia for this really wonderful write up! The challenge lies in actually perceiving these small particles of matter that actually create the physical entity that is before me and fusing these particles into harmonious patterns that reflect geometric foundations that parallel the universe and its foundations. When i approach this idea from many angles, i also have to maintain the integrity of the overall composition and the color patterns within it while creating the dynamic from the objects underlying foundation.

The complexity of abtract art and the ideas behind a piece are very unique to each individual abstract artist. Some artists choose geometric simplicity, while others , like myself, use geometry within the framework of the overall dynamic and design. Much like the intuitive self reactive and creative tendencies that took place long ago in creating the universe, the creation of abstract art also takes on this recognized energy and technique. As an artist works and becomes more and more engaged within the composition, eventually an outside force of unexplainable magnitude and guidance, will begin to assist on a cosmic and intuitive level helping the artist fuse all the ideas into one. Just like the universe probably at a certain phase became self creative and everything began working together collectively to expand, the work of an artist also takes on these fundamental characteristics that ultimately lead to transcendence and a connection with the mechanics of the universe.

Justin ~~~

One of My Original Chess Drawings at the 2006 Mayor's Cup Super Chess Tournament in New York City with Former World Chess Champion Susan Polgar

The 2006 Mayor's Cup Super Chess Tournament took place on Sunday and Monday, June 25th and 26th at the downtown athletic club in New York City. On hand were players Gata Kamsky, Alex Onischuk, Boris Gulko, Alex Stripunsky, Ildar Ibragimov, and event organizer and player Susan Polgar. I called my long time friend in New York City, Edward Longo, to attend the event since i had plans that fell on those two days and was unable to reschedule. Susan had Edward on the list as a V.I.P. and he had access to very nice and intimate shots of the event taking place, including shots of my drawing which i donated to Susan and her foundation in support of the event and chess in general. Edward had each player sign the mat inside the frame after the event as it will be auctioned off at an undisclosed time by Susan and the starting bids will be around $1,000.00.

Susan also had me recently design her logo for her foundation and the program cover for the Super Chess Tournament. The donation of the original drawing made us an official sponsor and we had a nice and generous sponsor ad in the back of the program! A very special thanks to Susan and to my friend Edward for helping me and supporting my ambitions.

All photos are copyright (c) 2006 by Edward Longo and Longo Studio and Gallery. This particular game, above all others, was exactly what i would gravitate to in a most curious way as a child living in upstate New York. Something about this game kept me searching for more as my mind raced with a curious fascination into the miriad of geometric structures and unique principles that, to me, seemed almost perfectly in harmony with life and the universe itself.

As i learned the unique laws of each unique piece, i quickly realized that the game could present each player with an infinite number of possibilities and the resulting outcome of these, when both sides clashed, could pave the way for fascinating structural combinations that got even deeper as the game progressed. These perplexities almost seemed to create an insatiable hunger that my mind could never satisfy and thus began my journey into the study of this game and the resulting inspiration that would be the ultimate catalyst for many of my most intriguing works of art.

As i grew older and approached my teen years, the game became a primal hobby that would assist me in my studies as an artist. I quickly and naturally relied on the game as a core foundation for the various structure associations that i was drawn too as i worked on my abstract and surreal style of art. Studying the various counter angles, attacks, and tactical strategies that consumed my thoughts created an immense amount of bottled up analytical inspirations that screamed for a release. My mind was always of the cerebral sorts and would go to the extremes of analyzation and feeding this elemental nature within by using the game of chess built up heavy reserves of creative forces that were transferred outward through my art. The game was essentially providing the resources for the analytical foundations within my mind and creating a supply and demand of inspiration that had no choice but to be expressed in a human way.

Being that i was a creative soul as soon as i was born, finding the game of chess was like finding that mysterious muse that has benefited me my entire life and has created interesting glimpses into mathematical worlds that are very closely related to the creation of life and to the creation of a new work of art. One of the many reasons i have so much passion for creating is that it somehow makes my analytical mind feel at home in a safe place where i know i belong. It challenges me to balance certain areas and find interesting ways of fusing inner and outer realities that are in absolute harmony with one another. The game of chess, which i have found through years of research and study, gives creation a certain blueprint that can manifest in so many fascinating ways like the uniqueness of each galaxy within the universe. The infinite opening, middle, and end games that blossom from each move on both sides ultimately create distinct patterns that mirror the patterns of movement and structure of life on earth. Just like a pawn attacking a knight creates a urgent response that also changes the forward structure and pattern of the game, splitting an object in half within a composition can also create an infinite number of possibilities to an artist both in objective and color applications. When two opposing forces collide in the middle of the board you can see the blending of two colors and objects as various pathways and mathematical posibilities begin to take shape. The microsmic patterns of one side begin to cross react with the patterns of the other and begin to unify themselves in forming this systematic melding of two minds at work. The interesting thing is, as the opposing thoughts of two players try to attack and defeat the king of each opposing player, an almost intuitive and harmonious fusion of analytical ideas begin to transcend each others own unique strategy and create one larger creative force which mimicks the act of artistic creation. As the artist adds more color, lines, and form, the work as a whole begins to take on a life of its own that is somewhat outside of his or hers personal control. The work begins to create itself like a cosmic machine and everything works in synchronicity in a grand display of supernatural energy that parrallels this inherent end result within a game of chess.

The act of creation guided by one artist or a game of chess played by two players each has its own unique structural outcome that comes to a climactic crescendo in which an outside force inevitably begins to assist in the mechanical and systematic flow of the creation by the creator or creators. The game of chess provides essential clues and outcomes within the microcosmic strategies of both sides that translate into a macrocosmic fusion that transcends the mathematical laws of reality. A sublime and poetic state of motion and harmonic structure becomes more than the game and the players. This transcendence that goes beyond analytical structures and probabilities becomes an inspirational catalyst for creation and has been my trusted muse for many years as an artist.

To view my chess art collection please visit here:
http://www.imaginativepencil.com/chess.html

Chess Shirt seen on T-Shirt Casserole!

I want to thank Kristen at T-Shirt Casserole for finding my drawings and shop amongst millions of shops at Cafepress. This is what she wrote next to my shirt: "It was tough trying to pick just one design by artist Justin Michael Jenkins to feature here, so I closed my eyes and pointed, and came up with this cool Chess design! His surrealistic colored pencil drawings are fantastic (as well as his mind, spiritual, abstract, and anatomy inspired art), so spend some time in his shop and watch your eyeballs start bending around each other - in a good way, of course!" She is also a very talented designer and i found some of her many sites and shops that were linked from her blog. One of her sites, ArtofFoxVox, has some terrific designs that she makes and it shows all the hard work she puts into her store. I always love to find shops that show a higher standard on the internet. After talking with Susan, i am honored to be a big part of the sponsorship of this historic event by donating an exclusive signed original chess drawing in a classical gold frame for this even. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York City athletic Commissioner Ken Podziba will be on hand for the event. The work i am donating is "The Concealed Fate of an Imminent Surrender", which Susan picked from my collection.

After careful deliberation with the staff at Imaginative Pencil, i decided on giving Susan an original because of the fact that i rarely give my originals (which would make this even more special) and the simple fact that i have complete admiration and respect for the tireless path Susan takes with promoting chess around world and expecially in schools for children. I have been playing chess since i was 5 years old, and i absolutely love what the game represents and can do for a persons way of thinking and overall character in some cases. Since i sort of feel i have a kindred connection to the path Susan takes, it was a no brainer for me to donate this piece for this worthwhile cause. This is the first time i have placed any original chess piece to the public for auction and sale. The details of the event are still sketchy, but players such as Gata Kamsky (who was once 2nd in the world and played for the world championship against Karpov back in the early 90's) , Susan Polgar, and Boris Gulko, will be present at the New York Athletic Club on June 25th and June 26th.

In terms of the art piece i am donating, i think Susan will be showing the work at the event, but we plan on talking about this next week. The work is now officially up for bid and auction with a minimum bid starting at $1,000. Buyers interested in purchasing this work with the frame included can go here for more details: Susan Polgar Blog Entry

Susan will be accepting private emails for the bidding prices and 100% of the proceeds will go to the event! We will also be featured in the program as a sponsor! I want to personally thank Susan for her vision of including my art within the framework of this event and her support over the past couple months in her attempts at promoting my work on her blog and such.

If you also want to email me about bidding prices i can forward the emails to Susan for her approval. Please, only serious inquiries are welcome since we are extremely busy. The fact that this work of art will be forever linked to this historic event will propel the value even higher over the years.

Thanks for your time regarding this event.
Justin

Redefining Reality: Looking at the World from an Artists Unique Perspective

Written by artist Justin Michael Jenkins

When we look inside and around our everyday world we inhabit, we perceive our reality as exactly the way we intend to observe it; as identifiable objects that have certain colors and appearances which our senses have already adjusted to the condition of reality as we intended to relate to it. Therefore, we are somewhat limited to understanding what exactly it is that makes us a living organism capable of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, tasting, and just plain existing. Understanding the dynamics and energy that create what we are and what we perceive as reality requires analyzation, dissection, and a "scientific" approach to reality and objectivity.

One of the unique ways we can strip away everyday reality as we perceive it is through a unique visualization of life. Approaching reality from "outside" the box enables one to look at the world much differently than perhaps someone who is overly engaged in the day to day happenings we equate with living. Much to often we see everyone running or racing around to get more accomplished yet never stop to take a deep breath and really absorb their situation or the situations around them. To this majority, life is a microcosmic world they have boxed themselves into in order to focus on their priorities. This leaves some of these individuals falling further behind in their perception of the big picture and wisdom of seeing all.

Visualizing the world from outside the box is a trait that is distinctively inborn in many artists and creative souls. Artists seem to have a much more liberated bent on the everyday happenings of a controlled, almost "robotic" systematic culture and system that cherishes time deadlines, routine habits, mass influened trends, and a need to somewhat compare one another based on the "norm" of everyday expectations. These cultural traits, although somehwat strong in their orderliness and which have some positive characteristics, seem to restrict one from understanding the complexities of life and the overall picture that invloves each and every one of us. This picture or portrait of our place in the universe with all its underlying complexity and science seems to be only image deep, without much emphasis on how it was painted or with what materials and why. The artist strives to understand how the picture was created, why it was created, when it was created, and how it was created, leaving his perception of the global picture as a multi-layered observation from the inward to the outward, as opposed to the natural instinct and cultural norm or perceiving things outwardly at first then slowly to the inward truth. This reversed excavation only strengthens our spirits and leaves us fulfilled knowing that we strive to understand, and on many occasions, understand what we are made up of or what we were painted with.

Redefining our bent on reality means going to the core of our existence and truly understanding our relationship with one another. An artist takes a human face or person in a worldy setting, then begins to create dynamic interplays of color and form fusing the setting with the human person as if he "observes" everything that is in the picture box, not just the person at face value. The end result is a picture that is unique to reality because the artist did not focus on one particular object but noticed and observed all the objects. This gives the artist a much broader interpretation of the total environment he was observing and painting. His brush strokes or pencil strokes become unified and woven fusions of observational studies that collide with each other creating a harmonious display of color, form, and the interlocking "marriage" of both these major elements so important to the reality we perceive from the human eye. This exploratory result then propels our reality to another level of consideration that demands the respect of every part of our known world or planet, emphasizing that the macrocosmic machine known as earth is an end result of the relationship and interplays of the microcosmic human beings, animals, and countless variety of planets and organisms that inherit this earth.

About the Author

Justin Michael Jenkins is a full time artist, designer, writer, webmaster, and his hobbies include studying the game of chess, collecting civil war memorabilia, and his ongoing goal of creating a huge home library which will house many interesting books on many topics. We are now proud to offer the world this 160 page full color published book through the independent publishing source, Lulu. Our vision for this exclusive volume edition was to have a high end collector style book that features many drawings from the chess, anatomy, mind, spiritual, and abstract collections. We decided on a 7.5"X7.5" format that is suitable for many table styles including most coffee table settings. We have published this through our publishing division at Imaginative Pencil called Imaginative Pencil Publishing.

Visionary Landscapes fuses the insights, critiques, and reviews from various artists, critics, and scholars from all over the world with the intimate perspectives of each work by the artist himself. We collected numerous sources from around the world with regard to the style and approach of Justin and organized the book in such a way as to portray each drawing from various perspectives and also do a complete analytical reviews of the entire range of thought behind all the works. The goal of this exclusive edition is to give hidden insights that would otherwise go unnoticed by many viewers and create a collection of reviews and critiques by selected artists and scholars with a large portion of the deeper understanding coming from the artist himself. We want each reader to explore this large selection of drawings that span many collections and ranges and to become more aware of what the artist is trying to achieve both in meaning and message. Our hope is that readers will be rewarded with not only the secrets of how the artist came to certain conclusions and how he acheived them and why, but essentially the core meaning of each work will be revealed in the simplest terms by showing each drawing as a seperate analysis within the overall meaning of the book. The intimacy of the book centers on the artists deep ciritques and view points of each drawing featured which gives the reader access to the artist on a more personal level like hes in front of them explaining each work.

Book Preface

This first volume will approach the latest drawings from the studio of award-winning artist Justin Michael Jenkins with an analytical, fresh, and insightful point of view. With the help of the artist, we have compiled a small volume that will contain thirty of his most recent drawings taken from five unique collections. The artist will give us his insight into each work of art and the hidden meanings behind the symbolisms and objectivity that lie beneath the color and forms.
This book attempts to give viewers, collectors, scholars, and historians an ambitious and fresh examination into the mind, soul, and overall vision of the artist. We hope you enjoy this feature and his comments and analysis of what went on during this work of art.

Hello again everyone and thank you for visiting our blog spot once again here at Imaginative pencil. Today i have chosen a work from my mind collection that reveals the three stages of life in a surreal and symbolic way. In this particular work of art, i wanted the three stages of life and our existence to be represented by three unique faces that revealed the age of each person. Each portrait would symbolically represent old age, middle age, and infancy, the triangle of life and the various stages of growth in humanity. I also wanted color to play a unique role in the message i was attempting to achieve within the various shapes and objectivity.

When i began contemplating the design of this work, i decided that the focal point of this work would be a triangle of faces within the composition. A revolving cycle of existence would go from left to right as the elderly face that shows an older woman would revolve around to the infants face. Since the laws of the universe are reflecting in underlying geometric patterns and shapes, i decided on the triangular shape of the dynamic that the faces would create. As the work progressed, i also decided that the color of the faces would give insight into the emotions and various experiences that await or have defined each particular period or stage of their life. In the elderly face, i wanted the wrinkles and quiet contemplation on her past life to come through in vivid and sharp expression. I decided on making her face green because of her quiet yet accepted envy of the other two who have many more experiences to fill their lives. In the middle aged face, a proud and confident expression looks upward to the right as if they are boldly welcoming any future events that may come into their lives. I decided to let this face remain natural in color since they are in the prime of their existence. In the infants face, an excited, playful, and somewhat shocked expression reveals the childs overwhelming delight and bewilderment at this new and complex world he is about to engage in. I chose the color grey for his face because life and experience has yet to fill his soul and spirit.

In this creation, i also wanted the faces to be in a cosmic environment as walls of various colors surround them and sort of inprison them as they face reality while they grow and experience life. To reveal the connection between old age and infancy, i decided to place the young childs face within the head of the older woman and the older womans head in the childs head. This would visually and symbolically bridge the gap between death and life, or old age and a newborn. In the middle aged persons head, i decided to have a circular cut out which would show a far away star shining in the distant landscape of the universe. This would show the connection between humanity and the infinite structure of the universe and also reveal that the middle aged person is in the middle of this triad of growth which tends to be more self reflective. What we find impossible to view with the naked eye is the small particle interactions that make up this physical matter that structures our reality. These molecular and scientific associations create patterns of invisible energy that create many interesting and powerful forces that help nature, humanity, and life on earth in sustaining itself. These mysterious forces, although revealed and explained in certain areas of science to some degree, remain a constant intellectual and curious discussion and debate on how they interact and associate themselves to create physical matter and their relationship with the infinite universe. Artist Justin Michael Jenkins, the artist you are familiar with on our blog, has taken this curious and mysterious energy force and attempted to represent this underlying dynamic in his own unique vision and approach. The artist seeks to reveal with x-ray vision the underlying invisible swirling forces that swirl and interact in and around us.

With the use of color, shape, and the breakdown of physical form into tiny particles of energy that interact with each other, the artist has taken the organic and geometric forms found within our cells, bodies, life on earth, and the universe, and fused all these elements into dynamic scientific landscapes that attempt to seek the truth of this energy. The artist essentially takes an everyday scene or subject and then with the help of an analyzed approach to the various forms and shapes forges ahead on a journey to an unknown and mysterious world that is a balance between science and art. Spiraling bands of color that mirror our own DNA structure, geometric shape, and organic forms all collide within the composition to create an explosive array of elements that challenge the viewer on many levels of sensation. The impact of the various color against the varying degress of form dissection create layers of distinction that balance the scientific dynamic the artist seeks to subject the viewer too. He wants the viewer to get caught in the myriad of energy from the form and color and to become unified with the overall science. It's as if we are extraterrestrials looking in on our world here on earth and viewing the intricate dynamic that goes on beneath the surface of our physical reality.

The first example at the top of this page, "The Animated Perspective of Nocturnal Wandering", reveals a night scene where five humans are engaged in their own unique way in this scene. The artist seeks the truth underneath this scene and attempts to fuse the geometric and organic structures as he creates a scientific world of color, shape, and form. The emphasis within this work is unifying the breakdown of form into small particles of energy that create patterns of movement that coincide with the overall structure. The second example, "Garden of Reflections", explores a world where a young woman in a garden setting is contemplating life and her thoughts as the artist breaks the forms down and with careful precision and balance, fuses all the elements into an explosive scientific world of energy and patterns of color. The artist also creates a reflection of the woman in the lower right side of the work with a seemless fit into the overall dynamic of the entire work. He has sewn in her reflection in such a way that it aids the balance and impact of the entire work.

To view this complete collection please visit our Abstract Art Gallery at our site in the link below:
Abstract Art Drawing Collection by artist Justin Michael Jenkins

To purchase products with this fascinating collection click the links below:
Abstract Art Black Shirts
Abstract Art Wall Clocks
Abstract Art White T-Shirts
Abstract Art Posters
Abstract Art Mini Prints
Abstract Art Coffee Mugs
Abstract Art Framed Prints

If you are a store or business and would like to sell any of these products or our line of Framed Prints we offer bulk ordering discounts. With the addition of new technology and cutting edge mental practices our exploration has been more revealing and our findings become ever more interesting and promising. This complex and splendid terrain within our mind has been compartmentalized in many ways and has been labeled such things as the subconscious, conscious, and unconscious realms of this smooth, bumpy, and unknown landscape. The bridge between our mind and the structure of the universe and life here on earth is a connection that could lead to humanity tapping into unknown reserves of mental powers. This inspiring notion has also been the catalyst for various depictions of this unknown world and its connection to the scientific laws of the universe in many mediums. Many artists have challenged this notion and set out to visually explore this connection and the inner mind, both on personal level and universal level, in their approach to their style of art in whatever medium they choose.

Our featured artist and the one we represent, Justin Michael Jenkins, has compiled a collection of dynamic, surreal, and symbolic drawings using his usual style and revealed some fascinating worlds that he has created from the various scientific, biological, and psychological studies and also from extracting his own deep resources within his own mind. The artist combines this personal journey through his own internal structure that has been sculpted over the years from his own experiences and humanities universal knowledge of this mysterious world and penciled twelve colorful works of art. He approaches such questions as the intuitive mental energy between people to such things as the link between the capability of the mind and our forward progression here on earth both in industry and in the materialized world. We have featured a few examples of the end result of the artists exploration within this article to give you an idea of the various angles in which he approached this collection. Each angle was viewed with a different point of view and unique idea in mind so the journey could be explored on many avenues as opposed to just one road.

The first example at the top of this page, "The Ripening of a Lucid Psyche", explores the relationship between the beauty, poetry, and subtle forces of nature and the link to high creativity within the mind of humanity. The artist in essence wanted to fuse both worlds and did so by representing the heads as flower pot structures where the beauty and majesty of nature would grow and sprout. The second example, "Supererogatory Cognizance", explores the invisible scientific properties of energy transference between a crowd of people and between a few people. Within this work, each face has a unique personality yet all our tied and fused together by the collective energy of their minds and the activity on a supernatural level between the force within their minds and the harmonic structure of the universe. The third example on the left, "The Esoteric Force of Molecular Mentality", explores the molecular and biological power of the mind and this hidden source of infinite growth within all of us. The artist uses shell like heads to open and create repetitive effects that symbolize this collective consciousness that we all share and that tie us all together on earth. The orbs of light within these heads represent the seeds of this unknown collective power that will soon grow and plant themselves among us all to sprout and eventually fill our souls and minds.

To view this complete collection please visit our Mind Art Gallery at our site in the link below:
Mind Art Drawing Collection by artist Justin Michael Jenkins

To purchase products with this fascinating collection click the links below:
Mind Art Black Shirts
Mind Art Wall Clocks
<a href="http://www.cafepress.com/cp/store.aspx?s=pencilartshop.22871"target="_blank">Mind Art White T-Shirts
Mind Art Posters
Mind Art Mini Prints
Mind Art Coffee Mugs
Mind Art Framed Prints

If you are a store or business and would like to sell any of these products or our line of Framed Prints we offer bulk ordering discounts. We hope you enjoy this feature and his comments and analysis of want went on during this work of art.

Hello Everyone. Today in the Artists Corner i want to discuss a work which focuses on the surreal and scientific relationship between the mysterious landscape of the mind and the infinite dynamic of the universe. In this particular creation, my whole intention was to showcase the unison between the mind and the universe and how the power of the mind within the subconscious, conscious, and unconscious realms somehow relate to the overall forces within the cosmic universe. To visually reflect this fusion between the two, i decided on actually creating a galactic world that shows the intense structural growth and expansion of this galaxy that is formed by brains themselves. These galaxies, as seen in the drawing, begin to expand and grow as rubber band like strings ripple outward and begin the formation of many clusters of stars and worlds. I wanted the brains to act as the foundations for the creation of each galaxy. Within these brains, large round spheres begin to form the star clusters that will act as the center of these worlds. The entire message within the composition needs to flow and harmonize with the use of color, form, shape, and the breakdown and rebuilding of the three into an explosive creation and imaginary world.

As the work progressed, i saw opportunities to use the strong like band that symbolizes the expansive nature of the universe and the flexibility of the dark matter that is invisiible to the naked eye. If you look closely, the band stretches from the left of the work and begins to spiral into one galaxy forming and then proceeds to the next galaxy and so on. This band acts as a binding agent that balances the compositional space and structure of the forms and shapes. As brains begin to form worlds, split into molecular matter, and grow from various areas within this cosmic world from stems, the entire work is fused together by the use of color, light, and the precise placement and breakdown of many of these organic forms. The effect i wanted to achieve was an explosive and intense impact like this world is actually pulsating and growing before our very eyes amidst the magical colors and lighting that adds to the overall atmosphere. Like the majesty of the mysterious landscape of the mind and its hidden power we have yet to unlock, the distant creation of new galaxies and worlds also has an imperial and magical awe inspiring beauty and power to this creation. I wanted this work to invade the senses in such a way as to both make the viewer spellbound by the beauty and perplexed by the complex dynamic of this world as it forms before their eyes. I hope i have achieved what i set out to do and i realize some viewers may have a certain sensory reaction to it that is different than someone elses. I also want a cerebral quality to my drawings that make the viewer think about life and the universe and take a second look around them. I feel this gives the viewer a multi-dimensional experience where emotion, intellect, and their own intuition can play a part in deciphering the many hidden and visible structures and vibrancy of the colors.

This edition of the "Artists Corner" is our first of many more to follow in this new blog site. The game of chess is perhaps the closest microcosmic representation of life and the universe in game form. The game begins with two opposing sides of various pieces that mirror each other and have a unique ability to move around the board and attack. As the game begins, each individual pieces unique movement capability allows for numerous changes in the geometric and tactical structure, allowing for an infinite number of different combinations. These complex geometric counterplays and attacks manifest themselves from just one opening move. Like a single molecule that contains the seed of life and eventually forms organisms and the physical state of matter, chess also takes on this infinite exapnsion of growth as the game progresses. The game of chess is such a great metaphor for the structure and shape of life that it opens itself to be dissected and analyzed on many levels and has carried over into the field of art in many ways. Chess allows for a miriad of ideas and approaches that many artists have found suitable to their style of work and to clarify the grand messages of life in visual form.

Artist Justin Michael Jenkins, the artist we feature on this blog and our numerous websites and an avid chess player, was inspired so much by the beauty, complexity, and geometric structures the game provides on countless levels, he decided to begin a journey into extracting the underlying laws and elements of the game into visual form based on his unique style of art. As he continued playing and becoming a better and stronger player, he reveled in the fascinating ideas that could be generated onto paper from this magnificent game. The artist states, "Besides the fact that fact that i play chess religiously , these underlying foundations led me naturally to study and visually represent this game in my own unique style." According to the artist, this collection of work started from a dream interpretation where the artist had a vision of an explosive and repetitive structure of form as it blossomed from the board in a fictitious chess match against Bobby Fischer. This first work of art, "The Birth of a Strategy" , not shown on this page but can be viewed by clicking the links below, was the beginning of this collection and came to him in his dream. The artist states, "All of a sudden the board took on a liquid like form as the pawn levitated above the baord on many spheres." "The shapes and the culmination of the pawn rising and exploding was the growth of a tree like form from the top of the pawn as a bright yellow sky filled the background."

This collection of pencil drawings by renowned artist Justin Michael Jenkins takes all the elements within the game of chess from the various pieces to the complex geometric structures and represents these in a surreal and abstract way that produces many hidden and visible symbolisms. The works are reminiscent of some of the works by Bosch and Escher but with his own individual twist on things. He uses color like the checkered patterns within the game, allowing them to dance around the works in repetition creating seperate but distinctive structures within the art composition. The interpretation of the human body and all its mechanisms and complexity through various mediums has led to an exploration that is a long daunting process. Verious artists, scientists, scholars, and the like, have long searched for ways to improve on past knowledge of how our body operates and uses all its intricate parts to work in unison to heal and adjust to unnatural and natural stimuli. Artist Justin Michael Jenkins, the artist we feature within this blog and on our various websites such as Imaginative Pencil, has used this past knowledge and his own curiosity to create a unique, surreal, and visionary collection of anatomical drawings that set the human body in relation with the world around us and the universal structure. In the work featured above, "Raw Garnishings", the artist takes the human body and dissects it into various structures that assist in decorating the room setting he creates. The artist creates an intimate environment from the various internal parts and generates a surreal conondrum that takes our human body and places it within a setting that is furnished by this body. The artist creates a table from three dissected legs that reveal various layers of anatomical construction from the layer of skin to the veins and muscle. The artist states, "I want to show the beauty, complexity, and mechanical flow of this amazing structure that most of take for granted and react in a uncomfortable way when we see the inside of ourselves."

In a unique and experimental way the artist transforms the human body into a vast landscape of beauty and poetry that coincides with the creation of the universe and the roots of existence. "Jenkins has taken what was already a masterpiece and has carved out the forms and landscapes within us that mirror life and our world around us using bold colors and surreal settings that mimic the organic and unusual landscape within us," states M. Koira, Artist. The artist takes bone, muscle, veins, tendons, tissue, organs, and the layer of skin that protects them, and uses them to support the setting he desires such as rooms, mountains, landscapes, and theories of creation. He wants to give a glimpse to the worlds inside our bodies that started from the roots of our existence and is connected to the earthly matter and ultimately the universal matter that occupies everything. The human body as a microcosm for the way the universe regenerates and adapts is a big question we all must ponder on some level. The question quite possibly could be found through this visual exploration into the mysterious worlds and forms within ourselves. Jenkins ponders these monumental mysteries and in the end creates works of art on the human structure that transcend its physical and earthly state.

To view more of renowned artist Justin Michael Jenkins' anatomical collection please go here:
Anatomy Art Drawing Collection by Justin Michael Jenkins

To view the two works above, "Raw Garnishings" and "Mortal Fiber" go to the links below:
Raw Garnishings
Mortal Fiber

Each work on this page are copyright 2006 by Imaginative Pencil and Justin Michael Jenkins.
